Cat 4/5 Michael Schott Memorial Circuit Race 2011

Post Race Pic (l-r): Dan Donovan, Nick Gilroy & Chris Field.

My car said 26 degrees.  The flags were stratight-out.  Yes, it was frigidly cold this past Sunday on Marblehead neck, as the 2011 road season officially kicked-off with the traditional Michael Schott Memorial Circuit Race.  For the Cat 4/5 race, ECV was missing Ronnie Smithers and Dave Dishaw but still was well-represented with Chris Field, Nick Gilroy, Rob Rolsma, me and young phenom, Jon Anderson (on a ‘cross bike w/road tires – NICE).   Simple plan this year – stay out of the wind, stick together, and try to get as many guys up front in position for the finish. newengland

After twelve years, the Gran Prix of Gloucester has become a staple of the ‘cross diet for amateurs and elites alike, with a parade of champions gracing this seaside park with each edition.  Version 2010 did not disappoint, providing exceptional racing in each contest throughout the weekend. Fort Rock Revenge, NECS #5, today in Exeter, NH.  What a fine soggy day to end the EFTA mountain bike race season.  Despite this mornings heavy rain, the race course was in reasonable shape with a few mud sections but the balance of roots and rocks were simply slick as expected.  A last minute course change due to the weather resulted in a super fun short course, approximately 4+ miles. Sport and expert did 3 laps, elite had the pleasure of 4. We all got off to a quick start up a grassy path and quickly shot into the woods for some technical adventures right out of the box.  Having local knowledge was a huge…
